URGENT: Shirko Moarefi, a Kurdish political prisoner at imminent danger of execution

Iran Human Rights, November 13: According to some sources in Iran, the Kurdish political prisoner Shirkooh (Bahman) Moarefi has been transferred to solitary confinement being prepared for execution. According to these sources Mr. Moarefi could be executed in the coming days.

Shirko Moarefi (30) is a Kurdish civil rights activist sentenced to death y the Iranian authorities convicted of "Moharebeh" ( against God).

Mr. Moarefi’s defence lawyer, Ahmad Saeed Sheikhi, told radio Zamaneh (an exile radio-website) that he has not been informed by the authorities that his client is going to be executed, but the ppossibility is there that Mr. Moaredi could be executed soon.

Iranian authorities have often executed prisoners without informing their lawyers.

Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of Iran Human Rights said: "We are very concerned about Shirkoo Moarefi and 12 other Kurdish prisoners who are at imminent danger of execution." He added:" We have also heard that many prisoners could be executed in near future in Tehran. UN must urgently send a special envoy to Iran to visit the Iranian prisons especially the prisons in Kurdistan and Tehran".

Last Wednesday, Ehsan Fattahian, another Kurdish political prisoner was executed in Sanandaj capital of the Iranian Kurdistan .
